Free weekend? Go to Tusten

Norwegian people are believed to be born with skis on their feet. No matter how questionable this statement is, it is correct that Norway offers a lot of opportunities to perform this sport. Especially the area of Møre og Romsdal, which is by some skiers believed to be the best area for skiing all around Norway.

In Molde you can see mountains covered in snow everywhere around you. Marvelous view, but where to actually go to get your skis on and ride some slopes? Besides preferred choices such as Stranda, Oppdal or Bjorli that are all relatively far away, one should not forget about local options. I obviously speak about Tusten skisenter. When it comes to size it cannot compete with previously mentioned skiing resorts, but being 6 km away from the city of Molde and reachable by bus it is more than enough to satisfy weekend and business day skiing desires.

During business week Tusten opens only for evening skiing from 16:30-20:30. It is understandable that there are not enough customers during the week to make the skiing resort profitable, but for college students who do not have classes every day it is disappointing never the less. For all day skiing from 10:00-16:00 one has to come during a weekend.

Tusten offers four main slopes with four skilifts (three T-bars and one platter lift) and an enormous off-piste area. The off-piste area has an advantage that no matter which side of the main lift you decide to go to you are always going to eventually reach one of the side slopes/ roads to get back to the base station of the ski lift, therefore the situation when you would have pull the equipment of your feet and walk for hours in deep snow because you just went too low or far is very improbable.

Tusten skisenter is well equipped to satisfy almost any customer regardless if he rides skis snowboard or anything else. At the very bottom of the resort there is a decent snowpark where you can fulfill your adrenalin requirements. Tusten is believed to be one of the biggest of small local skiing resorts.

Overall Tusten skisenter offers a full experience of skiing in Norway, Møre og Romsdal. Obviously it does not reach the quality of Alps simply because the mountains around are not as tall as in Austria, Switzerland etc. But there is one thing which no alpine skiing resort can offer. When you take the ski lift as high up as you can and turn around, the view opens over the fjords surrounding Molde and the Romsdal alps, which is truly a stunning combination.

This map offers a good overview of what Tusten has to offer.
