Establishing research relations in China

Vice-rector for research of HiMolde, Harald M. Hjelle, is currently visiting Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) in the Hubei province of China to establish future research co-operation in the field of maritime logistics.

Both WUT and HiMolde are members of an EU FP7 project called ENRICH, which is a part of the so-called Marie Curie programme for exchange of scholars. The two institutions are also about to enter into a new joint project – SeaConAZ – funded by the Norwegian Research Council under the Transport 2025 programme. This project focuses on making supply chains from China to Europe more efficient by paving the way for sea containers going all the way through the supply chain to the retailing point in Europe (e.g. Norway).

– WUT will – in close co-operation with other partners and a PhD student from HiMolde – facilitate data collection in the Chinese transport and logistics industry, says Hjelle.

WUT has several connections to the Norwegian maritime industry and academic institutions, among them a long lasting training center for maritime certificates, hosted by the Norwegian shipping company Skaugen.

During his visit, Harald M. Hjelle will also contribute to the 3rd workshop of the ENRICH project, and also give an invited speech at the 3rd International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS2015), hosted by WUT.
