Go out! Go hiking!

No plan for the weekend? We offer you one: put on your hiking clothes, get your backpack and go spend a day hiking to Såta (630 m).

By NOELIA DEIRA (text & photo)

The starting point of the hike is Jensgurilia, a place 6 km away from Høgskolen i Molde. If you do not feel like walking up to that point, take the 701 bus to Trafikkterminal, and then, the 702 or 703 buses to Nordbyen. Both of them will take you to Jensgurilia.

Once at Jensgurilia, you need to follow the road to the parking place where the hike starts. If you have a car, you can drive right to the start of the hike.

Follow the sign to Moldemarka. The 10 kilometres hike has just begun, and Moldevatnet is the first step.

Moldedalen is the second step. Here you will realise that the hike is not all about the top of Såta, but about the way to the top of Såta.

The real hike starts where the road stops, on the way to Skolmelia, the mountain next to Såta.

The way to Skolmelia gives you a real hike sense. The path you follow is made by other hikers, other people on the way to the top of Såta, and it is not dangerous, but it gets tricky towards the end.

Remember, it is not all about the top of Såta, and the way and the views to the foot of Skolmelia and Såta makes the hike worth it already.

Take a break, breathe and enjoy the view, because the real challenge starts here, in the last meters up to Såta, where the path ends, and all you have in front of you are rocks, and a steep slope of about 30º.

If you go on, the view from the top will make all your efforts worthy. But if you decide to go to Skolmelia instead and enjoy the view from there, and then back along Bårdalsvatnet and Bergsvatnet, or, decide to go back the same way, the hike will be still worthy.

Remember, it is all about the hike.
