Big ambitions for Erasmus Games on campus

ESN Molde president Altug Ozturk and board have local, national and international plans for sports events on Molde campus.

This weekend, on an Erasmus Student Network National Platform meeting in Kristiansand, he presented the plan for the local Erasmus Games on Molde campus during 25th – 27th of April.

– Our aim is to get 200 students to participate in games in April. The University College staff is also welcome to join the games, says Altug Ozturk, who is studying for a MSc degree in Sports Management.

There will be tournaments and competitions in soccer, volleyball, orienteering, table tennis, and eSport in the form of FIFA game play. A chess competition may be added to the event, and possibly there will be some students from NTNU Ålesund attending and partcipating in the games.

But Ozturk and the ESN Molde board have even bigger plans.

– Next semester, or next year, we would like to host the national Erasmus Games in Molde, and if that is a success, we would later like to host the international – or perhaps Nordic – Erasmus Games here in Molde. We are doing this to promote the school, beacause Molde University College is not that well known internationally, says Ozturk.

In recent years, international Erasmus Games have been hosted by organisations in Krakow (Poland) and Milan (Italy).

He also suggests that hosting Erasmus Games for international participants could be a Sport Management course, which would combine theory and practice.

– We are a good team in ESN Molde, and the board members are very enthusiastic about the plans we have for hosting Erasmus Games this spring and in the future, Ozturk says.
