Beer lovers’ first frontier

Most Norwegians would not bother trying to tell the difference between Ringnes or Hansa or any other mass-produced beer, as long as there is alcohol in it. It is nice to see that Tapp og kork tries to change that.

The process of making beer is an esteemed art, distinguished and comparable to wine-making. One could enjoy beer types such as ales, lagers, stouts, porters, or malts combining in styles like amber, blonde, brown, cream, dark and so on. The list just does not end. For those of you beer enthusiasts, for whom chugging down can after can of Tuborg just would not cut it, there is Tapp og Kork – the first frontier for all beer lovers of Molde.

Tapp og Kork replaced a not-so-popular cocktail bar called Lille in the summer of 2015. Since then, they have been promoting a concept summed up by the manager Leif Oskar Helseth into one word: beer.

The idea is to introduce as many unconventional beers as possible from small and micro breweries in Norway. And many it is indeed. A beer enthusiast could enjoy more than a 100 different types. The beverages taste the best fresh from the tap and therefore there are always up to 17 draft beers available, of which 10 would change almost every week.

«The point is to find new unknown beers for people to enjoy», commented Leif Oscar Helseth.

For more traditional beer enthusiasts, there is a fixed offer which includes old timer gems like delicious German weizenbier Franziskaner or the remarkable Belgian lager Stella Artois. However, staying with these all night is not advisable.

«Tapp og kork is getting renowned in the brewing world of Norway», said Leif Oskar Helseth.

This is not surprising since the establishment organizes beer tastings circa twice a month, where the staff of a designated brewery comes and give a presentation of the products. Last month the pub even presented two newly released beers from the workshops of Ego Brygghus and Røros Bryggeri, which you could not get anywhere else in Norway at that time. Information about these events could be found on www.tappogkork.no.

Tapp og kork produces their own fresh citrus-flavored pale ale in cooperation with said Ego Brygghus, which is very popular. For those not so accustomed with beer, the Tapp og Kork offers the tasting plank on which one receives a variety of 5 glasses picked by the bartender in the tasting size of 0,2l, with beers ranging from the very light up to the heaviest.

When it comes to food, customers of Tapp of Kork can order any item from the menu of Pizzabakeren and the delivery is free. Pizza might not be the most sophisticated pairing option, but it still goes very well with beer.
